About the artist
Carolina Sardi was born in Argentina and was educated at the National University of La Plata, in Argentina. She also studied with the sculptor Ennio Iommi. Sardi moved to Miami in 1995 and first took a studio space at the South Florida Art Center in Miami Beach. Later, she moved her studio to the Little Haiti neighborhood in Miami. She works mainly with steel and aluminum and her sculptures and installations have an organic sensibility that reflects her interest in interactions of life and in the deep connections between every component of the universe. The reference to natural shapes, geometry and the use of positive and negative spaces are her response to a search of a balance between opposites.
Her work can be adapted to different architectural and functional uses; and she is well known for her wall installations comprised of multiple elements cut from metal. She plays with the effects of volume, light, and shadow, adding to the work different layers of possibilities and readings. Through her sculptures, wall installations, and suspended or free-standing artworks, she strives to evoke a sense of harmony and balance, inviting viewers to pause, reflect and contemplate.
She has participated in numerous groups and exhibitions, and she has been included in the prestigious Heavy Metal / Women to Watch exhibition at the National Museum for Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.
