About the artist
I am the son of diversity. I come from one of the most diverse countries in the world, a land known as Venezuela. A place where all races and ethnicities are intermixed to create a new cosmic race that is the union of all races. I see life through the lens of this dynamic genetic code and upbringing. My art is a reflection of who I am. Making my paintings, sculptures, and installations is how I find harmony to counteract the relentless push-and-pull that flows through my veins.
I am an eternal student of light and color; I am obsessed with the relationship that exists between those two powerful natural forces. My artwork can be described as optic art; I use geometry, repetition, color, and volume to create striking visual experiences that shift as viewers move around them. This dynamic effect relies on my meticulous layering of fluorescent colors and oscillating, rhythmic line-work. Although my pieces do not change, they always feel different to the viewer. As reality changes in the viewer’s eye, perception itself becomes visible, revealing the fluid nature of reality. Art critics have described my work as “Lines strung in complex geometric patterns, like the psychedelic webs of spiders high on mescaline and mathematics”.
My art is also heavily influenced by my immigrant experience in the United States. The different layers of connections and interconnections that immigrants must establish to survive and thrive in their new environments fascinate me. My relentless process of adaptation to a foreign environment pushes me to delve deep into my soul to attempt to define a constantly changing identity.
This continuous variation is manifested in the artwork lenticular surfaces I have been lately incorporating along with the use of reflecting materials to share my introspections with the viewer, allowing people to look at themselves within the complex translucent line patterns and lights that make up each one of my pieces.
