The confluence of science and art has fascinated Ned Kahn throughout his career. Over the last twenty years, he has developed a body of work inspired by atmospheric physics, geology, astronomy, and fluid motion. Kahn strives to create artworks that enable viewers to observe and interact with natural processes. Rather than constructing an alternative reality, he aims to capture the mysteriousness of the world around us through his art. His artworks frequently incorporate flowing water, fog, sand, and light to create complex, continually changing systems. Many of these pieces function as “observatories,” framing and enhancing our perception of natural phenomena. Kahn is especially intrigued by the patterns that emerge when things flow—patterns of behavior that recur throughout nature.
